Memorial Day Parade 2024 “Military Animals” Serving the Military and Veterans.

Corvallis American Legion Post #91 will conduct their annual Memorial Day Parade, this year’s theme  “Military Animals” Serving the Military and Veterans.

At 10:00am, Monday, 27 May 2024, At Main Street Corvallis

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. The holiday was first proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan and was observed on May 30, 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers. Until World War I many people in the South refused to acknowledge Decoration Day. Memorial Day is now celebrated on the last Monday in May.

This year we pay tribute to all our courageous military animals, from the 4 legged to those who bravely serve beneath the waves! Do you know how many different species of animals have served alongside our brave Men and Women? From courageous canines, valiant horses, dolphins detecting mines, sea lions aiding in reconnaissance, and so much more! Military animals have stood shoulder to shoulder with our troops, serving with unwavering loyalty and dedication. Their remarkable abilities and unwavering dedication contribute to the safety and success of our troops, both on land and at sea. Their intelligence, agility, and tireless efforts are truly awe-inspiring. Beyond their military duties, animals continue to bring joy and healing to veterans, offering unique forms of therapy and companionship. Let's take a moment to salute these furry warriors and express our heartfelt gratitude for their service, sacrifice, and the lasting impact they've made on our nation and the lives of those who have served.
