To My Fellow Legionaries:

I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to my fellow Legionaries from your Commander of American Legion Corvallis Post #91. There have been some changes in our organizations leadership and I wanted to recognize those members who go above and beyond their membership providing leadership for our great organization. WHY: Celebrate our Veterans • Dinner: Green salad with ranch or red wine dressing; choice of fire grilled tri-tip or lemon oregano chicken breast; garlic mashed potatoes; green beans; berry cobbler for desert.

From the minutes of Corvallis Post #91 Post 91

November 23, 1937

Nov. 23 – This meeting held at I.O.O.F. Hall, 8:30 pm.
George Rasmussen acting as Commander
Earl Hall acting as Adjutant
Dues were fixed at $3.50 per year and paid by all present.
Officers were selected by acclamation and approved unanimously.
The officers selected are as follows:
Dudley F. Bowden – Commander
Gilbert E. Chaffin – Vice Commander
Earl L. Hall – Adjutant
Willard Hall – Finance Officer
Sidney A. Johnson – Sergeant at Arms
George O. Rasmussen – Chaplain
Motion was made by Sidney A. Johnson to name the post Corvallis Post. Motion approved by all.
Sidney A. Johnson made motion to select Dudley F. Bowden as Commander. Motion unanimous
George B. Korman made motion to select Gilbert E. Chaffin as Vice-Commander. Motion unanimous
Motion was made by Gilbert E. Chaffin to select Earl L. Hall as Adjutant. Motion unanimous
Gilbert E. Chaffin made motion to select George O. Rasmussen as Chaplain. Motion unanimous
Earl L. Hall made motion to select Sidney A. Johnson as Sergeant at Arms. Motion unanimous
Motion was made by George O. Rasmussen to select Willard Hall as Finance Officer. Motion unanimous
Motion was made by Sidney A. Johnson for the Adjutant to send notices when charter arrives.

Changes to Constitution and By-Laws

Dear Post #91 Legionnaire:

As per the Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc., Constitution and By-Laws, the Executive Committee has agreed to the amend the above said Constitution and said By-Laws and put the following resolutions to a vote of the Post membership at 7:00 p.m., 19 October 2016. The resolutions will state the following: 

By-Law Resolution #1 – Post Executive Committee Quorum

WHEREAS, the post by-laws of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article III, Section 1, “The Post Executive Committee shall meet for organization and such other business as may come before it at the call of the Post commander within ten (10) days after the installation of the new officers. Thereafter the Post Executive Committee shall meet at the call of the commander at least every third month and as often as said commander may deem necessary. The commander shall call a meeting of the Post Executive Committee upon the joint written request of three or more members of said Post Executive Committee; six members of the committee shall constitute a quorum thereof.”

RESOLVED, the post by-laws of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article III, Section 1, be changed to read “The Post Executive Committee shall meet for organization and such other business as may come before it at the call of the Post commander within ten (10) days after the installation of the new officers. By-Law Resolution #2 – Post Liaison Committee to the Legion Family Units

WHEREAS, the post by-laws of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article IV, Section 15, “Sons of The American Legion Committee. This committee shall have supervision over the operations of the Post’s squadron of the Sons of The American Legion.”

RESOLVED, the post by-laws of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article IV, Section 15, be changed to read “American Legion Family Liaison Committee. This committee is a line of communication between to the Post’s American Legion Family units which include the American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Riders, and American Legion Amateur Radio Club.” 
By-Laws Resolution #3 – Post Meeting Night

WHEREAS, the post by-laws of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article VIII, Section 1, “The regular meeting of the Post shall be held at the club rooms on the third Thursday, at which may be transacted such business as may properly be brought up for action; such meetings may be converted into entertainment meetings, as may be deemed advisable by the officers of the Post.”

RESOLVED, the post by-laws of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article VIII, Section 1, be changed to read “The regular meeting of the Post shall be held at a previously designated location on the third Wednesday of the month, at which may be transacted such business as may properly be brought up for action; such meetings may be converted into entertainment meetings, as may be deemed advisable by the officers of the Post.”

Constitution Resolution #1 – Sons of the American Legion Name

WHEREAS, the post constitution of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article X, Section 1, “This Post recognizes a Sons of the American Legion organization to be known as the Sons of the American Legion Squadron of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc.”

RESOLVED, the post constitution of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article X, Section 1, be changed to read “This Post recognizes a Sons of the American Legion organization to be known as the Terry  Nobles Squadron of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc.”

Constitution Resolution #2 – Amending Post Constitution

WHEREAS, the post constitution of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article IX, Section 2, “This constitution may be amended at any regular Post meeting by vote of two-thirds of the members of said Post attending such regular meeting, providing that the proposed amendment shall have been submitted in writing and read at the next preceding regular meeting of said Post, and providing, further, that written notice shall have been given to all members at least ten (10) days in advance of the date when such amendment is to be voted upon, notifying said members that at such meeting a proposal to amend the constitution is to be voted upon.”

RESOLVED, the post constitution of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article IX, Section 2, be changed to read “This constitution may be amended at any regular Post meeting by vote of two-thirds of the members of said Post attending such regular meeting, providing that the proposed amendment shall have been submitted in writing and read at the next preceding regular meeting of said Post, and providing, further, that written notice shall have been given to all members at least seven (7) days in advance of the date when such amendment is to be voted upon, notifying said members that at such meeting a proposal to amend the constitution is to be voted upon.”

WHEREAS, the post constitution of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article XII, Section 1, This Post recognizes an American Legion Amateur Radio Club organization to be known as the Amateur Radio Club of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc.

RESOLVED, the post constitution of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc. states in Article XII, Section 1, be changed to read “This Post recognizes an American Legion Amateur Radio Club organization to be known as the KG7SPL of Corvallis Post #91, The American Legion, Department of Montana, Inc.”

From the minutes of the Corvallis American Legion Post. "On the night of November 16, 1937 seventeen ex-service men met at the Hall Drug Store for the purpose of finding out how many would be in favor of a post in Corvallis (Montana). All were in favor. Cards were mailed for another meeting to be held November 23, (1937) at the I.O.OF. Hall 8:00 pm."
