150 years

On Saturday July 8th, the Montana National Guard will host an Open House at

Fort Harrison to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment

of the Montana Militia, the 130th anniversary of the Montana Army National

Guard (MTARNG) and the 70th anniversary of the Montana Air National Guard

(MTANG).  The Open House will showcase our installation, equipment and allow

the public a closer look at their National Guard.

The event begins at 1000 in the North end of the parade field with a

presentation by MG Quinn followed by an open invitation for the public to

visit equipment and aircraft displays in the parade field and at UTES, tour

the museum, visit the chapel and the historic walking trail.  The Fort

Harrison Service Club will also serve lunch for $3.00.  This is a

significant event for our organization and for Montana.  We should all feel

proud of the heritage, history and the value we bring to our state and

nation.

The attached flyer provides additional information about the event and a

copy of it will be given to each of our guests as they enter the fort.  If

you are in the Helena area on Saturday July 8th, please take an opportunity

to attend this event and help show (y)our support to those we serve.

Terry N. Buckridge July 27, 1928 - March 8, 2017 

Terry N. Buckridge was born July 27, 1928 in Hamilton, MT to Freda (Haverlandt) and Harvey N. Buckridge. Terry's life ended 88 years later at his home in Marysville, WA on March 8, 2017. Terry's early life was spent in Montana and Alaska, attending 7 different schools on the way to graduating from high school in Hot Springs, MT in 1946. After a three year enlistment in the Army Air Force, he used his GI bill to attend college. He earned a B.S. in zoology from the College of Idaho (Caldwell), a M.S. degree in fisheries and a Secondary Teaching Certificate from the University of Washington. In 1958, after two years teaching Biology at Kennewick High School, the family -- Terry, Marilyn, and five children -- made their home in Everett, WA, where Terry joined the faculty of Everett Junior (Community) College as an Instructor. His classes were demanding, preparing students for moving on to the university. His enthusiasm for "real biology" was shared on field trips -- including those to Stanley Park Aquarium to see living fish, to Leavenworth to view spring flowers, to Neah Bay for seashore creatures at low tide. After 25 years of teaching zoology, botany, and biology, he retired in 1983. Having remarried in 1972, Terry and Phyllis made their home in Marysville. He was very involved in yard, garden, and remodel projects. In place of a 'garage', he developed a well-equipped wood shop where he spent many hours making sawdust, with the by-products of many very nice furniture pieces. Out-of-home activities of Terry and Phyllis included sailboating in the Larus -- local races, gunk holing in Puget Sound and Canadian waters north, with a fling around Vancouver Island; Alaskan campering in the Pacific NW and up the Alcan to Alaska; building a cabin on a ridge near Republic with associated duties of fencing, logging, brush burning, deer hunting, bird watching, etc.; to Australia -- at Cairns, Alice Springs, Perth flight followed by a renal camper-van trip around the Southwest corner of the continent; and all of the other camping, hiking, skiing, canoeing, and social activities. Life was good. Thanks to all of the friends who helped make it so. Now end the adventures of Terry and Phyllis. To those of you who knew him well, his parting words are "Give them Hell!" Terry is survived by his wife, Phyllis, who has been his companion and best friend for 44 years; his children, Lisa (Rich) Street, Sara Fandel, Kurt (Mai) Buckridge, Amy (Joe) Neal; and seven grandchildren, all residing in the South Puget Sound area; stepchildren, John, Rich, and Julie Prentice of Marysville; cousins, Marylou (George) Glasser and Margaret Mason, both of Hamilton, MT; Robert Lindsey, of Oregon; Barbara Falk of Kelso, WA. Preceding him in death were his sister, Fayette Dohm; and his son, Robert Eric Buckridge. Placement into the Buckridge family plot in Victor, MT will occur later in the spring.

Corvallis Post #91's Chili Feed Fundraiser on July 7th, at Sapphire Lutheran Homes

Here are the details on the chili feed.

We need 10 volunteers from the post.

Volunteers should eat (for free) at 5:30 PM, July 7th and be ready to begin at 6:00 PM. 

Chili Feed is open to the public starts at 6:00 PM.

Corvallis American Legion Post #91 will keep 100% of the profits from the feed, so the more people that come and eat, the more we will make!

The FREE concert begins at 7:00 PM and features the band "Big Sky Mudflaps".

There are raffle tickets for sale at the concert with great prizes. (Proceeds benefit the concert series.) 

There is FREE ice cream after intermission.  

This event should be a good chance for camaraderie and to enjoy each other's company as a Post.
